Web Database Option
This option covers the enabling of your database
file under Windows NT so that it may be searched with
your choice of software. All of our NT sites come
enabled with ASPs, Cold Fusion, and Perl / CGI.
One way to access your database is through Cold Fusion.
Cold Fusion extends HTML functionality in order to
simplify integration of your Web site with any ODBC
compliant database.
Your database files may be created
using any of the following database packages:
- Microsoft SQL Server.
- Microsoft Access 1.0, 2.0, 7.0 and 8.0 (Access '97)
- Microsoft FoxPro 2.0, 2.5 and 2.6.
- Oracle 7.0
- Borland Paradox 3.X and 4.X
- Borland dBase III and dBase IV.
- Microsoft Excel 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0.
- Watcom SQL 4.0
- Plain Text Files.
From an operational perspective, once you have created the database
file on your own computer using any of the above packages, you
can use FTP to transfer the database file to our server. Make sure your
FTP program is set to binary transfer mode.
Indus Hosting does not offer custom Cold Fusion or
ASP programming at this time. For your convenience, we
include a link to the complete Online Reference Manual for
Cold Fusion 3.1.
We will help you with the HTML/CFML and database file upload process.
In order to upload the database file correctly, you will have to tell
us the directory and filename of your database, and the "nickname" you
will use to refer to it within your CFML files so we can create
the association between the nickname used in the CFML extensions
and the database file on the server.
In order to successfully launch your web site with database access,
the webmaster should be comfortable with:
- Creation of HTML documents
- Use of CFML or ASP extensions within the HTML documents
- Creation of a database file
- Transferring the database file and HTML documents using FTP
from your computer to the web server
